Relationship of Pollen Germination to Pollen Tube Elongation of Several Horticultural Plants

Abstract
Pollen culture in vitro was conducted for several horticultural plants, and it was observed that so-called $quot;mutual stimulation effect$quot; when pollen are sown in artificial liquid media varies considerably in its response and extent as kind of plants varies. All plants tested showed increased pollen tube elongation as either the grain number or calcium concentration raised, while certain plants showed increased and some did decreased rate of pollen germination as likewise tested. Response of pollen germination and tube elongation to optimal number of pollen sown, concentration of calcium ion and pH is quite different according to kind of plants.
Relationship of pH to kind of plant in pollen growth was discussed.
